Chiseled Finish

We source storm-felled Oregon white oak, black walnut, and Pacific madrone directly from regional urban arborists and forest floors.

Logs are slabbed and stacked on studio grounds, allowing air circulation to season the green wood naturally over six months.

Mounted to our heavy cast-iron lathe beds, timber is turned wet, letting the wood pull its own grain as internal tensions release.

Surfaces are refined with high-carbon drawknives and gouges, preserving tool marks and end-grain movement.

Species Characteristics

Native Oregon white oak and Pacific madrone movement

Working with unseasoned native hardwoods requires an intimate understanding of tangential and radial shrinkage. When we turn green timber, we anticipate how the wood will cup and check during its slow stabilization phase.

This deliberate engagement with wood movement yields architectural elements that feel structurally anchored and materially honest, responding directly to seasonal humidity shifts within the built environment.
